"We chose Jacque to be our doula for the homebirth of our son. Jacque's warmth, expertise and positive energy was incredibly comforting throughout my pregnancy and especially during labor. We attended her comfort measures workshop and her sibling workshop, both of which were fantastic. We also spoke on the phone often especially as I neared the end of my pregnancy and she was always there for me, and always reassuring. When I went into labor, I was surprised by how quickly I was progressing and the intensity of my contractions compared to my daughter's (much longer) birth. Jacque came to our home quickly in the middle of the night and kept me focused on breathing and releasing my tension while holding my hands through contractions. When I was starting to question myself and become overwhelmed with labor, Jacque looked deep into my eyes and gave me that reassuring look that told me everything was going well and that I was doing great. She helped my husband to play an active role in the birth and not get overwhelmed with all the activity that goes with having a homebirth. She also made sure to include our daughter as much as she was able which gave us some really amazing memories. She stayed with me while I was nursing my son for the first time and held my hands again when my small tear was being repaired, allowing my husband to spend some quiet time with our new baby away from all the activity. She even helped us clean up after everything was done and we were relaxing in bed with our new baby boy. Jacque was so in tune with my needs and emotions throughout labor and shared in my elation afterwards. Jacque's incredible presence was simply a gift and I will most certainly hire here again if and when I have another child. Jacque became so much more than my doula, she is also an inspiration and a friend. "

"Jacque is one of the most amazing women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. The first time I met Jacque, I felt her warmth and confidence. Her energy was like a magnet. When we interviewed her, her knowledge and skills shone through. As we worked together throughout my pregnancy, she was very informative and reassuring. We also attended her Sibling Workshop for our now three year old, and that was an added bonus, having our daughter adore her too! When the big day came, that was the true test.  With a broken bag and stalled labor, Jacque was there to help get things going. As my active labor picked up, Jacque was there with me in the silence of the night,  just her and me, working through my contractions. As my plans for a home birth came to an end, Jacque was there for me emotionally. She knew my pain and her gift of empathy still warms my heart. Her experience and skills continued working in the hospital, where she was able to help me refocus my energy after I ventured to a very dark place. She held my hands, looked me in the eyes, and we got down to business. I managed to have an unmedicated natural childbirth.  I truly believe I could not have managed without Jacque. She was my rock.I went into this pregnancy questioning whether I needed a doula again.  I thought my labor would be much easier and since I had already been through it, I felt pretty confident. I can only imagine how different of an outcome I would of had if it weren't for Jacque.  As I told her, she gave me my happy ending, and I am forever grateful."

"I was fortunate enough to have Jacque Shannon-McNulty attend the birth of my first child. My husband and I were extremely grateful to have her at our birth! She was gentle, encouraging, funny, and strong. We had an amazing natural birth, and we both believe Jacque was instrumental in creating the perfect atmosphere for us, even amongst the hub-bub of delivering at Prentice Hospital. I was especially impressed with how well she connected with all sorts of people involved in the birth - me, my husband, our midwife, the delivery nurses, the hospital staff, etc. She really empowered my husband to play a very active role in the birth. I had done a great deal of research into the kind of birth that I wanted, but I still found Jacque's expertise in our pre- and post-birth meetings very useful.
Using a doula is so helpful during a birth - it is hugely advantageous to have an expert with you whose entire role is helping you (not filling out hospital paperwork or tending to other patients). I cannot recommend Jacque enough - she really listened to what I wanted in my birth and partnered with me to make it happen. As soon as I am pregnant with our next child, I'm getting on her calendar!"
